Enchanted :)

This week in English we have been watching the film 'Enchanted' because our teacher wanted to show us how some fairy tales don't end with 'happily ever after'. This film is a perfect example as it shows the fairy tale being destroyed but it does go back to happily ever after at the end. She wanted to show the bit where the fairy tale went wrong. I really enjoyed watching it.

Our teacher has now given us the task of re writing a fairy tale of our own. We are doing it in pairs and I'm with Aoibhinn and we have chosen to do Rumplestilskin.  It was great watching Enchanted and it gave us a few ideas to what way we can write our story :)

Ballet :)

Today , all Ty's went to the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoighre to see the ballet show of the nut cracker and a Christmas tale. It was a really good show and I really enjoyed it. It would have been better if there was a narration on in the back ground as at times it was hard to follow. It was mostly girls dancing but there was a few boys too.

They were all brilliant! :) I thought the dances they could do were amazing. There was two girls from our school dancing , which was to my surprise as I didn't know there would be any one I recognised in the show. They put on a great production and it got me in the Christmas mood :)

Workshops :)

Yesterday we had three different workshops on charities as we had no work experience.  I was in group two and our day started off with a talk from Niamh from Trócaire. She talked to us about the millennium development goals. I thought this was very good as we had been learning about the different goals in our religion class. We also did some group work with girls that aren't in our base class and it was a great opportunity to get to know others. We arranged the different goals from most to least important. It was great learning about what Trócaire does to help other countries.

After break we had a talk from Liam. He was from Concern. We mostly did group work and we did a lot of debating on little topics. He gave us an insight to what he does and I really enjoyed his workshop. I thought that the concern workshop was the best out of the three as we got to voice our opinions.

After Lunch we had our last workshop on 'Self Help Africa' by Patsy. We learnt that giving money is not the solution to end world poverty. He kept telling us that we should be buying fair trade products as it helps the people in the third world even though they are more expensive. He told us about buying fair trade, chocolate, tea and other merchandise. Patsy also told us about a challenge group of Ty students from Wicklow did. They went without electricity for a week and they had certain rules to follow and they succeeded in it.

Fashion Show :)

On Monday we had our Junk Kouture Fashion Show, and it was a great success! Each group had one model and they each had their moment to shine on the'cat walk'. It was great seeing other people's dresses as you never got the chance to before. I have to say some of the ideas were brilliant. Katie modeled our dress. It turned out slightly too big for her but she was able to hold it up !!! We made our dress out of bottle caps and straws! There was other great ideas too like....
Cd's,  wires, garden items, lights, magazines and tea bags!

Two groups won out of each class. Unfortunately we did not win but the two groups that won it from my class, deserved it as I thought their dress looked the best. The two groups that won got a tin of sweets for it.
I thought all the dresses came out really well in the end as so much effort was put into them. My group and I have decided that we are going to change the bottom half of our skirt and enter it into the Official Junk Kouture Competition! :)

We have been working on our Junk Couture project which is involving us to make a dress out of recyclable products. Katie, Shauna and I are in a group together and we our making our dress out of bottle caps and straws. We have been doing this since September and we finally finished it yesterday. I am glad to have it done as it became very stressful at times. It wasn't what we were hoping for but it'll do.

We made the bodice out of a bin bag fall of bottle caps in a diagnol pattern and we chicken wired and paper machéd the skirt and sewed straws on top. We made the shoes out of straws and our hat out of bottle caps. We just have to sew them all together this Friday during our double class of art. We are then having the fashion show on Tuesday in which all Ty groups show off their recyclable dresses. It should be a good day and we'll find out who wins! :)
